Excerpt from Dr. Susan Lark’s Healing Herbs for Women
This Chinese herb has been used for thousands of years as a female health tonic and to prevent or treat symptoms of PMS and menopause. Traditionally, dong quai has been used to treat abnormal menstruation and menopausal hot flashes. Many naturopathic physicians and herbalists today regularly prescribe this herb for their female patients. In China, most women consume dong quai as a food, cooking the root in soup or other liquid mixture to soften it.
Suggested Dosage: I recommend that you take dong quai in powdered form in a 500 mg capsule. Take two capsules two to three times per day. Do not take dong quai if you are on a blood thinner, as it may reinforce the effect of the anticoagulants and could increase your risk for bleeding. For more information about dong quai or other herbs with estrogen-like effects, see Dr. Susan Lark’s Healing Herbs for Women available on Amazon, Amazon-Kindle and Womens Wellness Publishing.Tags: chinese herbs, Dong Quai, estrogen, herbs with estrogen, Hot flashes, menopause, PMS, women's health
