My Favorite Guacamole Dip

pic53I love creamy, delicious guacamole made with fresh avocados, tomatoes, and tangy lime juice. It is the perfect dip served with fresh vegetables or corn chips!

Luckily, avocados are readily available in supermarkets throughout the country and are a great addition to your diet, given their many health benefits.

Like olive oil, avocados are a great source of heart healthy monounsaturated oils. These beneficial oils help to lower your total cholesterol level while creating a healthier balance. They lower LDL, or bad, cholesterol while raising your HDL, or good cholesterol.

They are also high in potassium and low in salt which helps to lower blood pressure and reduce your risk of heart attacks and strokes. Their folate and alpha-linolenic acid content also helps to reduce your risk of heart disease. Heart disease is the main cause of death and illness in women once their reach midlife.

Monounsaturated oils are also beneficial for your skin and help to keep your skin moist, soft and beautiful! Their oils and biotin content also help to prevent dry skin and brittle hair and nails.

Another great benefit of avocados for women is their high content of carotenoids, especially beta-carotene, alpha-carotene and lutein. These are great nutrients for your female health. They help to reduce heavy menstruation, prevent ovarian cysts and promote healthy progesterone production to help keep your hormones in balance. Lutein also supports healthy vision by preventing cataracts and loss of vision from cataracts as well as macular degeneration. Further benefits include protection from heart disease and cancer.

Avocados also contain vitamin B6, pantothenic acid, niacin, riboflavin and vitamin C. Besides being a rich source of potassium, it also contain other essential minerals including magnesium, copper, zinc and manganese as well as fiber.

My Favorite Guacamole Dip

Serves 4

Serve with low-fat corn chips, sliced vegetables, and entrees such as burritos. Delicious!

2 ripe avocados

1 teaspoon lime juice

1 green onion, diced

1 garlic clove, minced (optional)

½ small tomato, chopped

Pinch of salt (optional)

Peel avocados. Place them in a bowl and mash with a fork. Add lime juice, green onion, garlic, tomato, and salt stirring well.
